REFLECTION

This is a poem of sorts that I had written years ago, inspired by a dream I had had... Looking back on this, I believe this was my very first encounter with Jesus...

Reflection

Alone in a world where nobody cares,
Where everyone gives judgmental stares.
I feel trapped, like I'm in a cage,
And I'm unable to let out my rage.
To fight back tears I close my eyes,
And then I try to clear my mind.
I drift off and start to dream,
And nothing is quite what it seems…
I'm floating high above the clouds,
Far from all the angry shouts.
I'm gracefully soaring from place to place,
And then, suddenly I see a face.
The face of a man with a heart so true,
A face so promising and eyes so blue.
He reached out for me and I took his hand,
And together we traveled all over the land.
He took me to a place unlike what I've seen before:
A place hidden behind a vine-covered door.
When he opened the door I saw a magical sight.
There was beauty everywhere, everything full of life.
He led me inside, to the center of this land…
We stood at a fountain and once again he took my hand.
I kneeled and looked at my reflection, then it began to change,
And I saw a reflection of my past days.
Past days that I had tried to hide so well,
But I couldn't hide them from him, or myself.
He saw all the sorrow and all of the pain,
He'd seen what I'd gone through each and every day.
This man understood, he knew everything about me.
He knew about the deaths, and all of my grief.
The deaths of loved ones so dear and so true,
But unfortunately, these loved ones, I barely knew.
Tears formed in my eyes and I began to cry.
He looked at me, then asked why.
I never got to spend enough time with them.
They went away and that was the end.
But that's not really the reason that I cry.
I didn't say I love you, I didn't get to say goodbye.
He looked into my eyes and saw my heart,
And I knew then that we'd never part.
He touched my face; so gentle so warm,
And I could tell he meant me no harm.
I closed my eyes and melted with his touch.
This man knew everything, yet he loved me so much.
I opened my eyes and looked around,
Then sitting up, I put my feet on the ground.
Once again alone in a world where nobody cares,
Where everyone gives judgmental stares.
It all seemed so real, but it was just a dream.
But that's why we have reflections: to show us reality…
